He accessed a suspicious character in front of the premises of Buchanan and Co., wbolessla jewellers, Evidently recognising tho detective tbe man presented a revolver at the offijet's head, The detective drew his own revolvtr, whereupon the mite, retreating, called, " If you cume near me I'll shoot." The detective continued to approach. However, the situ\tion was still extremely critical, when the detective heard a noise behind, and looked to ascertain tho cause, whereupon the man wrh the revolver bolted,
The noise was caused by a second mao in Buchanan's doorway. Hs also b>Ued. The detective ch :sed and 001-1 1 r..d this m »d, who had in his possession burjlai'e tools. He give the uame of George Harrison, aged 31.
An entrance to Buchanan s had not bo,n effected.
Harrison was before the Stipendiary Magistrate to-day, and was remanded f or a week. His supposv d accomplice has not been amsted.
