POLICE COURT.
Monday, August 10th. —Before Mr. K. L Stanford, tiM: DRUKKENNESS, J. M. Douglas was sentenced to seven days' imprisonment on a charge of drunkenness. Sergeant Haddrell stated that accused had been convicted previously within the last six months. A. f-EETOUS CHAEGE. Alfred William Deanic, otherwise known as " Bill Jones," was charged tbat, on Saturday, August Bth, ha wilfully committed indecent exposure on the foreshore. Sergeant Haddrell outlined the evidence, end Cilltcl Constable Buttimore, who deposed he arrested the accused in Devon-street, and charged him with the effaces. Gdorge Sydney Oonnett stated he saw Dennis taking a girl down to che beach, and giving her lollUs, he followed them up, at he was suspicious
about Dennis, He paw Dennis expose bimself to tbe chi'd. Witness then went away (o get another witness to mike the Cifle more certain, and nhen he got back Dennis was walking up the beach wi>h the child. In r'p'y to Sergeant Haddrell, his Wo: ship considered the casa had been proved. Accused denied that he had taken the girl away on a previous occasion, and contended that he never intended to act indecently, He would t-.ka his " affidavit " that nothing of the like would happen again if he was lat off ■his time, He had ajbtogo to in the country. His Worship said he could not let the accused off, his action was disgusting, and it was imperative that little girls should be protected. Ha could f;ive h'm 12 monhs for the act, the highest penalty his Court could impose, The sentence would be three months with haid hj" our.
