CRUEL TREATMENT OF A CHILD.
PER PRESS ASSOCIATION. Ohbistchuroh, August 8. Charles and Alio 3 Hinkins were charged at the Magistrate's Court with wilfully neglecting a seven years old ohild in their cusfoiy named Charles IrsonardLennnn. Sub-InsprctorDwyor stated the child was found by the polioe sleeping, on a bitter cold night, in an outhouse belonging to accuseds' house at S-. Martin's. The boy was an illegitimate child of Mrs Hankins, and when found was covered with some flax and three dirty corn sacks. He had no tinglet, and his shirt was all torn. His feet were swollen with chilblains, and his pillow was composed if two bricks, j The child was s'iff with cold, and had slept there a fortnight. The mother told a constable sbe was tired of ths child, and it would be a good job if ho was dead.
At the Mflgistrato's suggestion tha case was adjourned, and instructions given to tha polica to lay an information as for an indictable offence.
