LANDS FOR SETTLEMENT IN TARANAKI.
We understand that during the past week the Taiacaki Lind Purchase Board, which comprises Mr Alex. B*rron (chairman), Mr Mackenzie, Commitsumsr cf Crown Lands, and Mr Join He slop, have b en examining several estates in tbe Toko, Stia'hmore and Normanby districts, with a view, if terms can ba arranged, of acquiring lands fcr close settlement. Tbe properties visited were Mr Stuart's, at Sfcrathmore, of about 4000 acres; Mr F. Bayly's, at Toko, of about 1000 acres; and Messrs Brett and Hirst's, near Noimanby, of about 1600 acres. At the conclusion of the inspection, meetings of the Board were held .at Stratford and Hawera, A visit was also made to the Tokoara estate (Livingstone's), all of which has now been taken up, and on every farm, except one, residences and farm steadings have been erected. Stock was looking well, and it is said that on some of the holdings as much as a baast to the acre is being run, even in winter. All the settlers are engaged either in dairying or cattle raising and fattening,
