Wall-.ce at full back gave a magnificent di p'ay, his tacking, linekickling ind catching raising repeated shouts of applause. Kiernan, who has reoovered f om the injury to his knee, shaped w. 11, and McGregor did good service. Wood played below his usual form, but Asher was prominent at times, and Long, Tyler, and Oooke were the best of the forwards,
Wood, who captained the visitors, wan the toss, and elected to play with the sun at their backs.
Queensland smarted aggressively, and went near scoring right from the kickoff, Wallace smartly staving off the danger, but a few minutes later the home combination were awarded a free kick near the quarter flag, the shot at joal being futile. Another penalty kick was awarded to the home team, and Redwood made a fire but unsuccessful attempt at goal. Kiernan then dashed through the opposing backs outside Queeushnd's 25 s, from where Wallace had a fruitless shot at goal. Porteous was responsible for putting the QueenslandeM in a tight oorner, Bed wood extricating them cleverly, Waliace had another penalty shot, which went dangerously near the goal posts. Stead and McGregor nullified tho opposing backs passing rush, the ball going three-parts down the field. Gradually the visitors removed play into Queensland's quarters, where a miskick on the part of the Queensland centre three quarter gave Asher an opportunity, ana he, getting possession, dodged past the home backs and scored behind the pos's, and the try Wallace converted, the visitors thus drawing first blood. New Zealand .. . • 8 Queensland .. . • 0 The visitors were soon on the aggressive again, but a splendid opening made by Stead was spoiled through Long getting offside. A little later the visitors were given a free kiok within an easy range of the Queensland goal, but Wallace failed to improve the score.
Two capital pass's were made in quick sucdssion from Kiernan to Wood when invading Queensland*! territory, but the advantage gained *aa uiuhd by the Canterbury man. Relief was awarded the home team by a free kick, and afterwards a marie in a dangerous position. A rush by the Queensland forwards' was brilliantly stopped by Wallace, who subsequently terminated tome capital passing of the home bicks in the nick of time.
Kiernao, Wood, and McGregor were next prominent in concerted pawing, the litter being grassed splendidly by Redwoad within a few yarde of the goal line. Queensland responded gamely, but the visitors were not to be denied, and once more brought the scene of p'ay in'o Queensland's quarters, where Redwood again cleverly raved his side, and shortly the first spell erjdfd. Subs quwtly tho s»me player, with a tremendous line kick, brought operations right up to Queensland's line. Eiernao gave Wood a pretty piss, which enabled his Oiptain to score a clever try, but Wallace failed with the kick at gotl. The home team were next awarded a free kitk, owing to Wood being offside, and Redwood made another fine attempt to register a goal, tho Miorilaudors bring forced down. Following the kitk out, the visiting vanguard?, headtxi b? Ling, swept the ball right up tho fi-ld, Long being bowled over a few inches from Queensland's line.
Wallace failed with a penalty kick. The prettiest piece of passing during the day was now witnessed, Stead, Asher, ard Mctfrcgir taking part in it, and resulting iu McGregor crossing tbe line, and scoring behind the posts, but Wallace once mors failed at goal. New Zealand .. ..14 Quewshnd .. ..0

The Stratford Ztasays that Mr 0. H. Aradt has been persuaded to act as nanager of the Taranaki rep. football feam on their far South as Napier. He will then return, leaving the team in charge of Mr Glasgow. George, the ex-Taranaki playtr, is keeping the good opinion formed of his play earlier in the season, and stands a good chance of being selected as ene of Auckland's three-quarters in its touring team.
