PKB PRESS ASSOCIATION. Wellington, August I
A deputation reprfsenting the National Council of Women _ interviewed the Premier to-dty with re spsct to the removal of civil disibilities on women.
The Premier said he had not noticed a desire on the part cf the publio that women should sit in Parliament. He thought no buiband should be allowed to mortgage his home unless his wif; was a consenting party, and that a wif* should have more power in regard to the control of her children. If women were made justices of the peace he was afia'd tbeir emotions would warp theijudgment. As ta equal pay with mer for t qual work in teaching, the Government had to consider what the cost of education would be. Taxpayers would probably object, and the result would be a general reduction of salaries. He agreed that women should be on Hospital and Charitable Aid B jards, and in some cases might be useful on juries. As to the Contagious Diseases Act, which the deputation asked should be removed, the disease specified should be reported, in the ssme way as other infectious diseases, to the Health Da- ' partmant.
