FEDERAL MILITARY SCHEME.

Mklboorsb, July 25. The military scheme adapted by the Federal Government provides for inter-Stato or Commonwealth defecce and garrison troops for local or State defence. It is intended to raise a mobile, well equipped field force capib'.o of! taking the field at th-j shortest notio in any psrt of the world that Australia! deiireq to employ them as a garrison forca for the defence of predetermined strategical centres and-places of commercial impirtance. The field force will consist of 18 regiments of light horse, and 12 regiments of infantry. The peace footing will be 13,911 aic snd 60 gUDS.and the war footing 2;. 7,753 men and 84 guns. Th=se will consist entirely of militia. The troops of the garrison force number 11,856 men with 26 guns, and will consist 'argely of volunteers.
