SLY GROG-SELLING.
Per Press Association. Thames, July 20. As the result of a raid by the pjli.-e on an alleged sly grog shop in the Tairua district, 30 mil»s from Thame, two men were charged with selling liquor without a license. Evidence I was given that the sale was witness i by the police who seized ten cases of beer and found 100 d zen empty bottles. The defence was that the miners in the district sent orders fer thecasiS to Auckland, and had used the place as a depositing ground, and that when the police came they had not time to remove ths cases to their proper destinations. The oharge against one man was H<jea bting fine.l, including costs, £35, and the m*jor portion of the l'quor confiscated. The Magistrate said that for the next offence no fine would be inflicted, but accused would be sent to gaol,
