FIRES.
PJSR PBESS ASSOCIATION. Nafies, July 19. The oldest shop in Hastings-street, occupied by Newton and Co., grocers, Kaiapoi Woollen Co, Bennett and Querie, tailors, and the London Dental Co., was destroyed by fire this evening. The fire broke out just before midnight, but must have been burning for some time previously, as when the flames broke out the whole of the upper story of the building was in a blaze. Practically nothing was saved of Newton and Co.'s and the Kaiapoi Woollen C'o.'s stock, and very little from the others. The fire was fortunately confined to tho building in which itstarted. The insurances are not ascertainable at present.
