Mr Gibson Bo wles said it was equivalent to nearly 80 years purchaseMr Piebyman, Civil Lvd of the Admi alty, siid the Admiralty had engaged two experienced valuers in Scotland, and the vendor also had a valuer. The Admiralty's value was £7OOO below the vendor's. Lord Linlithgow was unwilling to sell land which for three centuries had been in the family, md was opposite his res'dsncp, but became wi ling to do so on learning what it was required for. tho bargain was fair in vi w of the increasing value of land near Edinburgh. For the Crown to exercise compulsion would be more coetly, as it was custonjiry to pay thirty years purchase, plus fifty per oent, for land resumed cqnopulsorily,'
