POULTRY SHOW.

The fourteenth annud show of the iNew Plymouih Poultry Pigeon and ! Canary Society c:mmoricod on Friday, when, from point of entrirs, a recoid success was achieved, though the attendance waß nob as good as might hsiva been exp cted, Tho floor space of the- Hall was taxed to its u'raost capacity with per.a of birds, and the quality cf the exhibits was by far the bust yet in the district 1 -, though it! must be remarked that pome of ths birds exhibited were hardly fit for thar <how ring. The Show was formally opened by his Worship the Mayor, who, in the coursa of a short address*, referred to tho growth of, the poultry industry in New Zealand. In 1902 some 38,000 birds were exported, whilst for this year up to the present no less than 100,000 had baen shipped, asd yet tha industry was only in its infancy. Further, the colonial demand *as far from satirfi d, He also exprefssd the opinion that Every farmer should k;ep at least 500 birds, for the cost of upk°ep to those who kept cows and had a Spare acre of ground was nomm-il, whilst a considerable source of revenue wtuld bs ascured* His Worship also strongly commented upon the lack of iateres 1 ; shown by the public of Now Plymouth in thß Society, remarking tb.it a circus would probably attract ten times the cumber. From an educational poiat of view these shows should be strongly supported, for they should form part of the industrial education cf the people!' Amongst the special entries the Momo- ! hafci State farm had a fine collection of birds", the Game, Houdms, Bltck Orpingtons, and Pekin ducks being particularly fine. There was alio a large display of poultry appliance', incluning an incubator hatching chicks, which proved a great attraction. Visitois on Fudiy afternoon were greatly disappointed at the awards not being fixed to the pens. The judging, however, was not completed till late in the afternoon and the special piizes were not notified till very lite in the evening. We cannot congratulate the oommittee on the way in which these important matters were cirriod out. Ano'her drawback was that the backs of the pers were too far apart, owing to the width of the tables. This interferes with judging, and lessens the space available for visitors. Otherwise the exhibits were well displayed. The awards were as follows ;
