FARMERS' UNION CONFERENCE.

Per Prena Association. Wellington, July 9. The Farmers' Union to-day dscided to draw the attention of the Government to the scarcity of farm labour, and to a&k the Ministers to consider tbe question of tho advisability of reintroducing the nominated system of immigration. Complaint was made of the administration of tbe Stock Act, and the low rate of compensation paid for animali ordered to be destroyed. The sale of seeds and manures was commented on, and a proposal carried in favour of legislation permitting tbe publication of tests and all information •ts to purity, etc. A resolution, tuggeating that more aotive steps should be taken in certain districts to eradicate noxious needs on Grown lands, was passed.

At the Farmers' Union Conference, resolutions were carried urging that a o mplaint from Waikato regarding the refusal of the Custom) Department to remit the duty on a road grading miohine bd considered by the Colonial Council; that the Government be requested to prevent the d«struotion of all native forest suitable for milling purpose?, and that they should eubsidiee local bodies for planting reserves ; that tho attention of the Premier be c»llod to the meigre represents ion of farming interests in the legislative Coucoil, and that he make such appointments as will pi we them at least on an equality with other interests; that a protest be against tbe levying of Income Tax on co-operative dairy companies; that an endeavour be made to prov.nt the consummation tf the proposals by tha Trades Union Ojnferano to increase the land tax and reduoe duties on the necessaries of life; that the oonferenoe heartily supports Mr Rirkbride's endeavours to obtain legislation enabling farmers to unite for tnu*U3l fire insurance ; that the agitation for a State 13 mk is not in tha best interests of the colony; tiiat disapproval be expressed of thu present conditions obiaining at country telephone bureaux.
