BARRETT ROAD BOARD.

A special meeting of the Board was held ou Saturday afternoon at Mr P. 0. Morton's office. Present; Messrs A. Gtorga (chaiinun), S. W. Shaw, W. Evett, aud J. U. Davies. A petition was read from the agents entrusted with the sale of the suctions on the Yeale estate askiog to be allowed to place a footbridge across a small stream to get oa to the property.— Granted, A petition was read from a number of piopurty owner? askiog the Board to take steps to raise a loan of about £2OOO uuder the Loins to Local Bodies Act to continue Devon street through ■to ihe South-ioad. It was pointed out ' that the properties through which the proposed road weuld pass would be subdivided, and a considerable revenue in rates would accrpe to the Board, Messrs Brennan and Lennon wrote offering £SO each towards the formation of Oalvert-road as soon as the proposed extension of Devbn-Btreet was formed. After some discussion, in whioh Mr Shaw pointed out that the Devonstreet extension must be done entirely out of loin money, he moved, that in order to give effect to the request of the petitioners for forming and metalling Devon-street from Belt-road to its intersection with the South-road, and also forming U&lvert-road from Southroad to D=von-street, Mr .Alfred Palmer, roid engineer, ba employed to give plans and estimate of the probable cost of these works at a cost not exceeding £ls. Mr Davies seconded the motion, which was carried. It was decided to ask the Government if they wculd grant the loan. A petition was read from settlers in Hine-street asking for gravel to be put on a portion of the street. It was | decided to inform applicants that the matter will be favourably considered as soon as finds and weither will allow. I The Clerk reported that the increase in the v.laatiou this year was £56,000. i Mr Shaw moved that tha rate for the ourreat yeir be three-eighths of a penny (instead of a |balf-penny as last year.)— Carried.
