Mr Wyndham, Chief Secretary for Ireland, speaking at a banquet given by the Ooneervitive Asscsiation, declared his belief that Mr Chamberlain " impressed ourselves and our bret ren' of the colonies with a sense of Imperial responsibility and solidarity that was sadly lacking when our opponents were iu office. Tiica-} resisting the enquiry into the commercial relators of the Empire with foreign countries, and questions of transit, deer it d an open mind." The Council of the Netionsl Union of Conservative Associations has passed a resolution welcoming the inquiry into the existing tariff relations, and trusts the outcome will prove the practicability of a still closer union between the Colonies and tbe Motherland. { Received 4, 5.36 p.m. London, July 3. Lord Rosebery, ieferring to the fiscal inquiry, charged all the Ministers, excepting Mr Chamberlain, with levity.
