GUARDS' ART UNION.
Thebb was a large gathering at tht Drill Hall on Wednesday evening in connection with the drawing for the prizes in the Art Union promoted to benefit the Company's fundi. Tht proceedings oommenoed with some I company exercises by the Guards, under Uapttin Oook and Lieutenants Holmes ind Messenger. After this a squad of picked nun went through some of the physical drill with r fles under Sergeant White, The movements were executed to a musical accompaniment, and war* characterised by commendable paeoision. Subsequently another squad gave an exhibition of wand exercises with equal success under Sergeant Gold* water,
The next event was the distribution >f shooting pr'z s. Captain Oook escorted the Mayoress (Mrs R. Oock) to the platform at the further end of the Hal), Ojlonel Ellis and the Mayor >lso taking p»rt. His Worship called up the winners and Mrs dock handed o e.ch the prize he had gained. The following is the list: 1, S rgeant Short (Gladstone bag); 2, Jorporal Oliver (-ilver teapot); 3, Qorooral Hartnell (shooting kit); 4, Oap-tain-Adjutant Taunton (set of desert uuves and fork*). ytojnd-olaw: 1, Pvt. Howell (shotting kit); 2, Prt. Jhilcott (case of cavern). The faunon Shield, wi:ha money priziof£2 2<, was carried off by Pvt. Obiloot% Pvt. P. G. MoEwen taking the second prjze of XI, and Corp. Hartnell the bird of 10j. The recipients were each warmly cheered.
The drawing for the Art TJnfon than >:ook place. The remit will be found n our advertising columns. During the evening the Garrison, Band played a selection of music. ' "
