AN IM.PORTAN U SCHEME. Per Press Association. London, June 29. Lord R'Scberry has propounded a schtme for the establishment of a College of Applied Science, in conncc ion with the London University, similar to that existing at Chailottenburg, in Germany. The money for the scheme has already been found. The trustees include Lord Rt sabery as chairman, the Du&e of Devonshire, Mr Bilfour, Sir Francis Ihowa't, Mr Jn'ius Wernher, Lord Haldane, Or Archibald Robertson (vice chancellor of the Lon don University), and Sir Arthur W, Rucker (Princip'e of the University). The cost, apart from <ln site will be £300,000. Messrs \V<rnher, Bait and Company, of Johannesburg, are large contributors. Donations also been receive! from L rd Strathc ni, Lord Caihel and rthfrs. In a letter unfolding h's scheme, Lord Kosebory asked the London County Council to undertake its maintenance which he es-ima'es at £20,000 per annum. Lord Rosebery strougly emphasised the importance of picked 'Students of the Motherland and the colonies finding opportunities for acquiring the most advanc.d education within the Empire. The newspapers recognise the importance of Lord Rosebsry's scheme from the standpoint of a training for B itish mining engineers, metallurgists and chemists. The Times state? that Wernher Beit and Co. offer £IOO,OOO immeliatdy and a similar amount later, on certain conditions.
