They > were the Hod. Sir H. J. Miller, Colon* I Pit r , Hon. VV. 0. Walker, and Hi n. W. Baillie, The newly-appoimed Hod i Mahuta was also one of tha Commissioners appnntad, but he did not attend. Sir H. J. MilWj the Ohie' Commissioner, informed the Council that the Governor had been pleased tt< ; cause a comm'ssioa to be issued it order to open to cpm Parliament. He then commanded the official known al- - Gentleman Usber of the Black Rod " to ibform members of the House o 1 Hepro?erititives that the Commissioners desired their immediate attendance in the Legislative Ccuocil Chamber to hear the ktters patent appointing th 9 Commission read. In response t> this iovita v ion, the members of the popular chamber headed by the Pre mier attended in a numerous body. The Chief Commissioner informed

them of the commission and the let'er* patent were read by the Olerk of Parliamsnt. The Chief Commissioner then informed members of both branches cf Legislature that tin Governor would next day in person declare to th m the causes of his calling Parliament together. He also announced to members of the House of Representatives that it wou'd first be rtecsssftry' :to elect a Speaker of the House, and , that haviDg chcsan him he must be ; presented at 11 aim. next day for the j Governor's approval, There was a large attendance cf the public in the ! gilieries of the House, On their I re! urn from the Legislative Council I the members were sworn in in batches of four.
