Sir Henry Miller, tha Hon. W. 0. Walker, tha Hon. Mahufca, and the Hon. Captain Bailie, After members of tha Lower House have bees sworn in, that House will, proceed to the election of a Speaker. Then it >8 probable that tributes will be paid to tha memory of tho3e memhirs Tiho have p;s-od a T .vay during the year, an 3 that,tha House will then adjourn. The formal opecir.f of Pai-liament-by h?3 Sseeil-jEoy the Governor is to take place oa Tuesday. The Addre=s in-Heply in the legislative Oouccil is to be moved by the H ? n. T. K, Macdccald, and eecondtd I by the Hon. Seymour Thorne George. As already stated, Mr Rutherford, M.H.R. for Huruuui, is to propose tha Address-in-Reply in tha Lower House, and it is to ba seconded by ilr Major, M.H.R. for Hawsra. ' It ia worthy of note that sioue 1901 no fewer than ten seats in the Legislative Council have become vacant by death or resignation. Those members who hive died ' were the Hons. M. Holmes, Sir John M;Kerzie, S. E. Shrimski, W. Twangon, Sir G. S. Whitr»ore, Dr. Grsct>, Captain Morris acd J. A. Boaar, whilst those who have resigned are the Hon. W. Jennings (now in the Lower House) and the Hon Mr Barniccat, The new members who have been called to tha Council since 1901 are—Hops. W. F. C. Carticross. A. , BilJey, Jb\ Ttask, T. Thompson, T. Kennedy Micdonald, H. Wigratn, S. T. Gaorge, W. Baehan, James Holmes, J. Marshall, and Mahuta, Tho membars who will tow be absent are— Hons. F. Arkwright, J. T. Pejcjck, I W. 0. Smith, and V/. Montgomery. Tho Hon. Mr Montgomery is Buffering from the effects of a recent accident, acd is merely able to move about on eiutches. The two Speakerships constitute at .present the chief topic of discussion, it is consideied probible that the Hon. W. C. Walker will be elected in the Upper fcous 5 , and Mr Guinness in tho House of Representatives. The appointment of Mr Guinness will leave the Chairmanship of Committees vacant.
