A replace advertisement regarding the i baziar in aid of the school for Maoti girls i will be found in our advertising columns. We learn that the ba'fcaar will be opensd by the ReV F. A. Bennett with an address, after which the Maoris will give a dance and sing some songs. The preparations for this affair are in a very for . ward state, and there is "every indication of its boing a very great success. We learn that most of the goods arrived in Auckland from Home too late for the , Baziar there, and were never unpacked, , but have-ieen sest on here. The Bazw is under the patronage of Lady Rsnfurly, and will be held in the Theatre Royal instead of the Drill Shed. We have received from the Chief Post- , master a capitally arranged table of charges for telegrams for places beyond the colony. It is arranged in pages with , eyelet to hang it beside the telephone, eich page being slightly shortened, so that the name of the State or country is printed on the margin at the bottom Anv one wanting to find the chargo for a cable has only to pick out the name on the margin of the page, and they will, on turning the page up, find full information regarding places and rates. Unquestionably the trade of New Plymouth port has increased with the general development of the Taranaki Province, says the "Egmont Settler," and the signs would seem . to. indicate that a judicious expenditure on harbour improvements is becom'ng necessary to meet growing requirement*. Experts hold that the harbour can ba greatly improved, though we are chary of believing the day is at hand when ocein liners will lie alongside the wharf. It is, however, reasonable to balieve that increased facilities and safety | can be given for shipping with advantage x to th 9 province. The ratepayers should noc histily reject the proposals of the Board, and ou the other hand the matter is sufficiently serious to warrant earnest consideration before committing the provinco to a further loan.
