McDnald, a well known auc'ionevr, and formerly a member of the Lower Housß, had been callei to tiio Legislative Council. The Premier said he thought for once the Government hsd kept as close as an oyster, for even the recipiunt knew nothing abaut i*. Mr McDonald, who was present, sud he was completely taken by surprus Ho boprd, howev r, the Premier would cot thick ho shcuid settle down into a political nonentity, for ho still had some ideas lef , and he bvlieved in his ability to extcute them,
His Excellency the Governor has signified hia approvil of tho following Legislative Council nppDtatments: T. K. McDonald, Wellington; Henry Wigram, first Mayor of Greater Ohristcburcb, Seymour Thome George ' o£,Auckland (an old memtor of Parliament, and a nephew of Sir George Grey); and William Beehsn, Auckland, an importer, and well kcown in Auckland political circles. There is n< t yet the ful ! number of members in the Legisktiva Council, but nothing more Will be done a 5 present to fill the vacancies. i
As for the Uabinut, the Premier sijs thifc whatever ra r >y occur after th« session there wiU mt be any change duriog the fitting of Parliament.
