He had long taken an active pirt in pi'itics, haviug;' at one time represented Nelson in the i House of Representatives, while in the ( year 1881 he took part with Mr Sed-ii don in the battle connected with the i .Representation Act—a notable episode i in tfce political history of the colony, I Colonel Pit* has taken an tn'husiastic < share in the v-ilunteer movement in ( this colony, He commanded tho New i Zeahnd Contingent which wsnt to < London for the celebration of tha Dia- ( moni Julsilea of the hto Qjeen Vic- 1 toria. Colonel Pitt was a member of < th.i Po'ice Uoramission in 1898, and I wan chairman of the Federation Com- I mission which tot k eviderca thronph-! out New Zealand and Australia on (he federation question. !
