THE MAYOR AND MESSRS WESTON AND WESTON.
TO THE EDITOR. Sib,—His Worship the Mayor, when considering our opinion upon the " Imperial Hotel" case, was pleased to say that we wrote " Tommy Kot." To what pirt of our opinion he referred is somewhat difficult to say, although apparently his remark had reference to the following:—" We doubt the legal right of the Council to institute proceedings for the mere purpose of exonerating its membersfrom alleged Wame." Whether the expression His Worship used was quite worthy of the Mayoral Chair and the occasion, it is not for us to say. We conceived it to be our duty, in this somewhat important case, to plaee the true position before the Councillors, not only in their own, but in the interests of the public whom they repressnt. His Worship may rest aesured that when we are asked for an opinion upon any matter, important or Unimportant, it will be gmn without " fear or favour," and to the best of our abili'y. —Yours, etc., We toh add Weston. June 18th, 1903.
