HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY.

ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meetin? Os the Horticultural Society wsa held in the Mayor's room in the Town Hall on Wednesday sight. There was a fair attendance, Mr Percy Smith, the president, being in the chair. KEPOKT Aim BALAKOI SHEET. The President's report and the bal-ance-sheet was read and adopted. The principal items in the receipts were: Donations £lO 16s 6d, members' subs £29 10s, balance .from last year £lO 14s, entrance fees' £5 lis, advertisements £5 10s. The principal items in the expenditure were:— A. Ambridge £B, Herald £3, News £3, rent of hall £7, prize money £27 15s. The credit balance was £l7 14s lid.

The report was a long and interesting resume of the piast year's operations, and dealt at gnat length with the last show. It paid a just tribute to those who had worked so hard to make it a success, and concluded:— Our membership numbers over 80, a number which might be easily doubled if each member would undertake to secure an additional one. If this result was brought about we should be able to offer additional prizes and generally fulfil the objects for which the Society exists in a better manner. This last year 30 ladies, gentlemen and friends offered prizes in the 10 classes into which the exhibits were divided, to whom the thanks of the Society are due. There were altogether 500 prizes offered by the''Society besides certificates of Tj%jri.t. ■ The Socfcfty will, I feel assured, agree in most heartily thanking the General Committee, the Ladies' Committee for supplying the refreshments, the judges, the Press for their very full reports, those who prizes, thos3 who assisted at preparing the show, the exhibitors, and all who] have contributed towards the success of the Society's affairs.

I The date of the Spring Show was fixed for November 26th. j It was decided that the committee draw up rules and bye-laws for the Society and submit same to a ipecial general meeting of the Society. It was decided that the committee .be instructed to hold an Autumn Show on a Thursday nearest the full moon in March next, or as near that date as proves suitable. Mr H. R. Catt'ey was appointed a life member of the Society. It was decided to get out the schedule for the two shows, at the same tinn acd on one cheat.

A vote ot thinks was passed to the Pre s, officers of last year, General Ocmmittee, Ladies' Committee, judges, and all others who contributed to the success of the show.
