Teere was a good attendance of interested spsctators, iucluding a Urge contingent from town. The site ii about a quarter of a mile from the lebool and in a central position. The building will, when finished, accommodate about 70 and will ba lined -and otherwise made comfortjble straight away. Mr ia the builder. The sohema wm originated during Rev. SerpelTe Ministry and to tha credit of the Oarringtonro id people ba it mid over two thirds of the com ia already in hand with a reasonable prospeet of the 'building being frej of dsbt before tha first an* nitersiry. Tha c-remony was conducted by tha Riv. Newman. Buttle and the corner B'oqfs w«re "wf 11 and truly laid " by Sir P. Wells (who acted in places of his father who was too indispose. J to attend), " Father" Okey and MesirsO. Otrtfr and S. B. White, the two latter gentlemen refe ring appropriately to the auspicious occasion. Rev. OannaJl also gave a short aidreas, after which the Dozology and Benediction terminated these prooeedinge. An adjournment was then made to the school, where an excellent tea was provided, after which a short meeting was hU, at which Mr Whitakw preaidod. After a hymn, and prayer by Mr Hodder, the Chair mm, in tbe oourse of a few remarks, referred enthusiastically to the strenuous efforts of Messrs Wells, senior and juaior, in church work in their loouity, after which Mr K. Well« gave a financial stitement, which showed that only £57 was wanted to clear the whole
property. Tka next item waa a quartette by Mrs Patch, Miss Wilkie, and Mesirs Uoombea and Ohatterton. * Mr Neal gava an encouraging address, dealing mainly with the important plaoe Methodism held amongst the churches of the colony. Mr Ohatterton then gave a voasl solo and Mr Walls a reading, after which Rov. Buttle britily addressed thou present. During the oouree of bis re* mirks he held that the erection of a church was a goad investment for a district, and gave instances where this was 60. Speaking of the higher aspect of the question he etitei that the erection marked a forward movement, md hoped that thu building in ques'hn was only the forerunner of many more iu that district. The Bsn Miction broaght a very enioyable function to a conclusion.
