PARLIAMENTARY UNION.
The first meeting of the nevly-formed Parliamentary Union was held last nigh p , when there was a very hrgi attendance, including a considerable number of ladies in the " Srang<'rs Gallery,'' The were Opened by a speech fiora the Tbrotie" by llis Exwliency the (Governor (R. Cojk, Estj.), who outlined the Government policy, which, by the way, is a very radical ore. On resuming 14 cew membirs were ebcted, afcer which the Ministry were plied with ques'ions. The Address-ia-JJeply was proposed by Mr Stinley Smith (Henui) and seconded by Mr Stevenson (Spotswooi), and the debate was continued wi'h vigour till 10 o'clock, some of th£"f p iecbes being exceediagly good. The motion was carried without amendment. The main subject for discussion at 'next meeting is the sacoLd reading of a Bill to place native lands in the sime position in regard to taxation, fencing, etc, as European lands. Judging by the interest; taken in the fi s: meeting, the Union has come to s'ay, atd should proveauaefu' and instructive local institution.
