LICENSING COMMITTEES.
PEE PRESS ASSOCIATION. Wellington, June 16. The City Licensing Committee met te-day for consideration of applications which had basn adj mrned. The Committee tigain adjourned the issue of licenses to the Panama; Metropolitan, New Zealander, and Clarendon Hotels pending information as to the condition of the buildings and contemplated repairs. The existence of " dives "at the Empire, Cecil, and Oriental Hotels waso'jectad to by tte committee, who intimated that they intended to abolish these p'aces. Counsel, however, ontended that it was not within the power of the oamrmtte to att ch conditions to licenses. Further consideration of these bo:els was adjourned until 29h inst. The Committee int'mated that they would cob reconsider th<) ex-ten-ion of the closing hour until 11 o'clock.
