not PRESS ASSOCIATION. Th&hbs, June 13. It is reported that a seam of good coal, five, feet wide, has been struck in the Puketui district, at., the southeastern portion of the Hauraki Peninsula. The dkcovery has not jet been reported officially, but experts are proceeding to the district for the purpose of testing the coal and ascertaining the valutftf the discovery. Prior to his departure for America acd England, Alfred Price senior partner of the firm of Price Bros., was presented with a handsome travelling bag and other valuable presents from residents in the Thames district. William McCallough, ex M.L.0., is also departing on a trip to England and the Continent. Several Thames miners and surveyors are proceeding to the gold coast, West Africa, under engagement to mining syndicates holding extensive properties there. The wages of the miners are £3O a month, three months health fur-1 laugh being allowed each year. Henry Gordon, Government Mining Engineer, is at present at the Thames an business connected *ith the Thames and Hauraki large pumping plant recently purohased by the Government, The Thames football team will this, year play Auckland and Taranaki.
