Sir George Turner, Federal Treasurer, wbile favouring an Australiar coinage of silver, eaid there was no indication that the people desired the chaDge, Australia would only create embarrassment by a sjstem not in uniformity with that in use in Britain. He moved an amendment to the effect that the time was not vipe for a change that should firßt be introduced in Britain accompanied, if possible, by the metiic system of weights aud measures.
