Th'j Premier speaking at W ickhams, said that if the Government survived the shock in Parliament next week, he would be quite prepared to go before the country. I In the House Mr Edwards moved I the adoption of the Select Oommittee's report on Commonwealth coinage. He claimed that there was an unanimous opinion in favour of a uniform decimal system the adoption of which would prove a hrga source of revenue. Sir George Turner, Federal Treasurer, wbile favouring an Australiar coinage of silver, eaid there was no indication that the people desired the chaDge, Australia would only create embarrassment by a sjstem not in uniformity with that in use in Britain. He moved an amendment to the effect that the time was not vipe for a change that should firßt be introduced in Britain accompanied, if possible, by the metiic system of weights aud measures. The Federal Government has unofficially suggested to Lord Tennyson that an extension of his term would be approved in Australia!. Lord Tennyson stated be was obliged to adhere to his previous determination. It h expected the name of Lord Tennyson's successor will ba announced before the end of July.
