The Marine Court of luquiry found the Oakland was seaworthy and well found, the foundering being probably caused by the cargo of coal bhifting during the heavy weather. The Birksgate brought the captain and crew of the wrecked barque Lotos from Fiji. The captain accounts for the disaster by being out of his coarse owing to currents and the tide setting the vessel in towards a retf on which she struck at eight o'clock at night, and filed with wattr in a dangerous position. The crew stood by in boats ar.d the barque caps'zed during the night. The crew then made for Suva harbour in boats, arrivirg there in an exhausted condition.
