Sydney, June 4, The progress report of the Methodist Commission at Fiji finds that the perversion at Natnoei was in no way the result of a religious conviction on the part of the people in f tvour of Roman Catholicism, but was caused by political agitators in favour of the federation of Fiji with Now Zealand, the defection of tha natives being chi< fly of a political nature; that the Ouholic priests took advantage of politioal dis- ; affaction to p rvert th 9 people ; that in carrying this out the priests took an utijustifiable cjursein t king possession of Methodist premises; that bibles were systematically collected and rosari> s given in exchange ; thit these bibles were taken 50 or 60 miles to Naililili, the scene of the burning. The Commissioners have resson to believe that copies of the scriptures collected in the Sjlo'ra district were torn up by priests on the p'ssage to Rewa, and thrown into the liver.
