OOMHITTEB BUSINESS. She Council on Monday night transacted the following business in committee : Messrs Briscoe and Oo.'s tender, £1385 lis 4d, was accepted for supply of water mains and fittings. ; Mr Glye's tender, £3, was accepted for grubbing furze at the cemetery, Mr A. Mcffiiv was appointed clerk i of works. There were 30 other applications as follows: Messrs Peddie, Brace, Noeworthy, Brittain, Thornton, Coalman, Borthwick, Ross, Armstrong, Ford, Barker, McAulay, L. Webster, M.J. Jones,Bjorson, Wilson, Austin, Kemple, Gollard, Oleghorn, Kennytrargh, Howland, Stephens, Cochrane, Ben wick, Rhodes, Ward, Malcolm, Campbell, Cowie.
A. tunnel in Powderham-street west will be fixed up. Gayne-street, between Morley-street Slid Oatfield-road, will be repaired. The Engineer was instructed to report on turfing and fencing a portion of the Esplanade near Weymouthstreet.
A letter will be sent to the Railway Department tor permission to fence in ■ few feet of the sea wall in order to give a continuous esplanade from east to treat.
Mr J. Kivell will be notifisd to cuf Ida hedge. The footpath in Courtenay-street will be attended to.
The poundkeeper will ba requested to be alert in his duties.
Inspector Free was requested to report on all trees overhanging foote the, at a distance of less than nine
The cement contract was divided between the New Zealand Portland Cement Company and J, Wilson and Company at 12s 61 a cask. The question of deviating the new 'intake road to the new waterworks was referred to the Mayor and Engineer to aet.
Tenders for contract No. 1, intake tannel, were extended for a month.
The Engineer will prepare a plan of tbe land to be taken at the new waterworks. A committee consisting of tbe Mayor, Messrs Tiscb, Brooking and Bellringer, was appointed to fix up what land was to be taken.
A copy of the Engineer's report on alterations at Standish's Hill will be sent to Mr L. Ballot.
Regarding the entrance to Frankleyroad a copy of the Engineer's estimate will be sent to tbe Uarrington Road Beard, with an intimation that the Council cannot see its way to expend iuch an amount.
Tenders will be called for levelling, etc, at the abattoir site. A plan of the water mains will be prepared by the Borough Engineer. Duplicate parte of the wearing parts of the Borough machinery will be ordered.
An application from Mr Ohong for certain earth removal in Molesworthstreet was referred to the Engineer. The sub-committee appointed to deal with the drain in Gover-street reported that they had let a contract for a tannel to be carried out under the supervision of the Borough Enginaer, Action confirmed.
