HAWKE'S BAY DAIRYING.

In viaw of the rapid devebr nunfc of the dairying industry in Hawke's Bay, and the appointment of a Governrneut grader of butter for the Easi Coast, the secretary of the Napier Cbambtr of Commerce has communicated w'n h the various dairy factories in this district, asking them to hrnish quarterly returns cf their output, as tbat thi figures may be included in the Chamber of Commerce reports. The idea is that | Hawke's Bay should get the credit for what is actually being produced in the province. Hitherto no complete leturns if the dairying industry hive been kep*, and th 3 total quantity of butter sbipped at tie place of export, which has invaiubly bf en Wellington, has been no guide as to where the butter was produced. Those factori s, therefore, which hive not yet furnished the figures asked for will greatly facilitate the prepiration of the returns by sending in as scon as po-sible the information required, so that; it can bi aid beftre the quarterly meeticg of tbe Chamber of Commerce, to be held shortly. Mr B. Veale, manager of tho Crown Dairy Company, Woodville, writes: "All our buttir is manufactured at Mangtitainoka, and goes straight to Wellington, and we cannot tmke use of Napier as a grading cen f re." The Heretaunga Dairy Company, for the quarter ending March 31st last, produced 53,3691bs butter, valued at £2OOI 6 a 9d. Of this quantity 40,f.36105, valued at £1535 2s, was exported. Mr J. Hun f er Brown, j writing from W&iroa, says: "No dairy i factory is as yet in existence here, but' I hope it will be eood. The truth here | is, we don't know where to erect our dairy factory, on ace un"; of the bar-1 bour. Jf we decide uprm Waikokopu we could ship straight to London."
