BISHOP NELIGAN ASTONISHED.

Thi Bishop-designate of Auckland, before leaving for his new home, told an amusing experience which bad recently befallen him. The parish of St. Stephen's, Paddingfon, has a parish magazine, published by the church authorities. The "inside" pages of this magazine are supp'ied to a considerable number of other magazines ■of a like nature, and are, ther. fore, coBeen by the St. Stephen's authorities until they are- ready for publication. Just prior to severing his conrec'ion with his old paiish, Dr. Neligan was astounded to see in the " inside " pag s of his own magszine a portrait of bimself in Bishop's robfs. His astonishment was great, as not only had he' never had a portrait taken in his episcopal robes, but had n ver even had I the robes ou-he had c necientiou* objections to so doing. In wrathful mood he hurried iff to the editor of the " inside " pages to get an explanation, j This, when given, was too much for Dr. Nel gan. The head in the illustration was his; it had been obtained from a portrait, Bui the body and robrg were the Bishop of Stepney's! One photograph had been used for the head and the ether for the body, the re-ult beingaompewi e presentment of Dr. Neligan not as be is, or ever fas teen, but as he w.ll be on Ascension Day at Auckland. The "fun of the thing " appealed to Dr. Notion's sense of humcur, and he f.esly forgave the ♦* too previous " editor.
