PER PRESS ABBOCIATIOH. Auckland, May 24. A great gathering cf representstivaa of Ohur; h and Stat a welcomed Bishop N> ligan last night. Speeches were da* li rared by the Governor, the Mayor, >nd Bishop Neville, and addresses wera presented ftona the dioces - , from tha Maoris, the Y.M.0.A., and other deno* minafions. In the coursa of a striking sddiesa, the Bishop declared he was not a putj churchman, as he be'ieved there was room for bath high and low churchman, provided they were loyal church mm and kept withiu the limitaof the prayar book. This morning tha Bishop held Ma first ordination, when a Maori clergyman was admitted to-the priesthood. Oa this occ«ioa the Bishop wore a splendid cope of white figured satin, with a border of claret ooloured plttsh trimmed with gold.
