This afternoon Ur Yalintioe, acting Ohit-f Health Officer, inspected the cargo landed from theGracshuJ, andht decided that 18 railway truck loads of kapoc and gunny bags must bides* troyed. The tapioca, rice, and nutmrgs in the cargo ha ordered to be pat into new bigs and the old bags burned, and that the rest of the cirgo most be fumigated. Theoity authorities received a mss. sage from Dr Finch stating that tha names and addresses of the men living in Christchuroh and district who ha* boarded the GracobusbaiJjesnobtained. instructions have be mi given to tha inspector to burn the hbourers clothes on their premises, and to disinfect tha houses thoroftghlv. **" [ Another message from Dr Valintina staged that all persons engaged in tha work of disinfection must be vaooinatad immediately. In the course of conversation with Dr. McCleland, medical officer for the port of New Plymouth, a Daily Newt ivprfsantntive ascertained that the. doc or was quite a'ive, to the need of exercising watchfulness especially ia conceotion wiih the fact that part of the Gracchus' cargo was transhipped to the Upjlu. Dr. McOieland is communicating with the Department on the matter.
