THE HARBOUR LEAGUE.
At the meeting of settlers at Toko on Tuesday evening there was a good attendance, Mr J. B, Hine occupying tha chair. The chief business was the cons de ation of the circular received from the r, cently-formed Harbour Improvement L-aague in New Plymouth, asking the Ti ko branch of tha Farmers' Union to appoint a delegate to attend acinfe e:ice on the subj ci of barb ur extension. Resolutions were carried to tha etl'.-ct that it is not advisable that any further borrowing for haabour purpo ;es ba undertaken at pr >sent, as the axis ing loau expires in 1909 ; and that tha Bottlers absolutely refuse to pledge themselves to rate country lands for further borrowing ; secondly, that a rc-adjus'm mt of the representation on the New Plymouth Harbour Board is dcsii'uble, eo that more country membsrs be appointed. Mr J. B. Hine was chosen as delegate to the New Plymouth conference. The meeting w?s thoroughly representative, and the pros and cots were well threshed out. Several speakers averred that i". would not greatly affect he Toko d'strict, as far as imports aud exports were concdrrieJ, if tho New Plymouth breakwater was washed away altogether.
