INSTALLATION 0? THE MAYOR. INAUGURAL AND VALEDIOTORY. IThis morning at 10 o'clock the statutory meeting of the Borough Council will be held when the Mayor elect (Mr B. Cock) will make the usml declaration and be duly installed as Mayor for the ecsuiog twelve month". Tbe proceedings will be open to the public and as they promise to be more than usually there will probably be a attendance. The retiring Mayor * Will probably mske a few valedictory remarks wbicb, owing to bis long service as Councillor and Mayor, should . be of considerable interest. The Mayor elect will also deliver his inaugural addre-s. Councillors will probably have something if interest to say. A WKLLDESERVJSD RECOGNITION. PRESENTATION TO THE MAYOR. Bsfore the installation of the Mayor •lect the great services of the Mayor Will ba recognised before he retire 8 from tfce office he has eo capably filled during the past 5| years. .This will take the form of an illuminated address bound In morocco. The address which has been lithographed and mounted by Mersrs Hooker and Scott, is very handsomely got up and reflects great credit on that firm whose artistic productions are sa well kaown as to need no praise from us. Tee address, which .Is got ap very tastefirly in colours, contains the arms'of the Borough, with the words "'Bjrough of New Plymouth" in highly ornamental characters, with sprays of New Zaahnd fbwers extending along the top and banging down the left-hand eide. The text of the address is very h&ndtomely engrossed with il uminated florid capital letters. It is signed by all the Councillors, and in the left hand bottom corner is affixed i the corporate seal of the Borough. The address is bound in book form, and on the outside cover is a solid silver shield inscribed, " Edwasd DocKaiLt, Esq., Mayor of New Plymouth 1897 to 1903, Councillor 1885-1888-1889 1897."| The following is the foil text of the addraes: New Plymouth, 13th May, 1903. To His Worship Mayob, Edward Dcckbiu., Esq , Dear Sir, — We, the undersigned Councillors of the Borough of New Plymouth, desire to express our appreciation of ycur services as Mayor for the past five and ahalfyears. Your unswerving devotion to tha interests oLtha, Borough v _acd the patience which you have exercised in the discharge of the many duties which have devolved upon you, call for our heartiest commendation, and have deservedly established in the mindß of Councillors the highest regard for youintegrity. In your conduct also of the business of tbe Council we wish to beir testimony fairness of spirit which has ever characterised your management. To Mxs Dockbill also we fe;l a word of praise is due for the many sacrifices she has made, and the tactful way in which she has always oarried out her duties as Mayoress, We, therefore, sincerely trust that you bath may long be spared to tffe community to which you have been attached for so many years, and tint the Town may continue to reap the benefit of yonr ripened experience.
