The Daily News, TUESDAY, MAY 12, 1903. VICTORIA COLLEGE COUNCIL.
In view of the agitation regarding tbe Opaku University Reserve the constitution of tha Council of the Victoria College is a matter of some m iment to the people of Taranaki. For the vacancj caused by the retirement of Mr J. B.! Blair there are two candidit s, v.'z,, I Mr Robart L°e and Mr F. Pirani. The latter is well-known as the late member for Palmeroton Nor:h which ha declined to contest at the recent election, for it was said family reason* and ill-health, Yet a few weeks later he was found contesting a neat in the vicinity of Wellington city. He has since bought an interest in the Petone Chronicle, and is now to all intents and purposes a Wellington man. Hia
public career has been rather an erratic one and not-one which is calculated tc inspire confidence in him fs a meibei of such an iuapoitant bady as tha CouD' cil of the Victoria College. The other candidate on the o'her hand is a man we have every confiienci in recommending to tbo3e having votes. He is a man of extremely wide experience and broad views on education. Reside having had large expedience as a teacher he has acted as inspector over the whola of tbe district from Taranaki to Wellington with an intimate knowledge cf Uawkes Bay, Ntlsor, Wes Marlborough. We hope to see Mr tee elected to this important position, because wo know ho can be depended upon to do what is right and fair and lie has speciil qualificatiocs for this important position,
