ftir Frederick Oalgher, of New Ply mouth, has given notice that he wiil apply at the next sitting of the Licensing Court at Patea, for a licence for a hotel at Whangamomona. It is said he will remove the Whenukura license, for which he is also an applicant. Mr Alfred Bayly has been gazetted a member of the Assessment Court, under the Government Valuation of Land Act Amendment Act, 1900, for the boroughs of Eltham, Hawera, and town districts of Normanby. An unprofessional view published in a West Coast paper :—"The harbour works of Napier aie indeed a lovely spectacle to gaze upon. What was intended to be an elaborate breakwater is .practically a heap of rains, and the unfortunate landowner is taxed up to the hilt to pay for the fully of those who were in power in days that are past."
