LITERARY AND DEBATING SOCIETY.

The first me titg of the Ssnior Branch of the above Society was held in St. Mark's Hall on Tuesday evening. The p oieedings took the form of a social at which there was a good attendacoj of ladies and gontlf men. Mr Edmunds (president) was in the chair.

The meeting was rather lite in starting owing to the assistant secretary not putting in an app arance for somi time after 7.30. It was f»o*tiously explained by the chairman th\t be wu burdened with the details of the tapper and was probably up the " 3a»rt-road locking Lr milk." The meetifg rp ned with a few remarks by the chairman, who wu followed by the Rev, Eran«, who delivered a very interesting addreai oa the tubjeofc of and systemi'io reidiog. .The very interesting programme which followed consisted of:—Vooal duet, Mes=rs Veale and Ryan; reoitatior, Mr Christopher; song, Rev. Bradbury J instrumental duot, Mr acd Miss Roberts; due', Misses fitkar; song (-moored) Mr Ryan; recitation, Mr Christopher; sonp, Miss Biker; recitation, Mr Tregellis; song, Rev. Bradbury. Impromptu fpaecbes were also indulged in, the following gentlemen tiking the platform : —Mr Vaale who. spoke on " Fashion," Mr R-isse'l " The Funniest Experience of my Life," Mr Campbell "Travelling," Rev. Bradbury " cooking."

At the close cf the entertainment refreshments were indulged in, and needless to say thoroughly enjoyed. The junior.branch mcete next luesday.
