IMPORTANT JUDGMENT. MR PRESS ASSOCIATION. Melbourne, April 20. The Oh'"ef - Jusn'ce delivt-red an important judgment in the case of Abrahams' appeal a?r<inst cinviction under the Federal Customs Acs for presentslion of c-rtain falfe invoices. The grounds of appeal were that the matters alleged against the defendant were not offences against the Commonwealth law, and any provisions of the Customs Act purporting to cons' i'ute the matters alleged against defendant were unconstitutional and of no effect. The Chief Jnstica upheld tho contention that a ceitain clausn of the Customs Act does impose duth-s and that the clauses whereon the pro 3 cution was founded wi-reinv-ilid. tht conviction. The decision repeals the whole of similar convicions ob'ain«-d throughout the Commonwealth The' Government will submit the matter to the full Conr k .
