What is describ d by a few fye witnesses who saw it as an immeira ball of fire by a rushing sound resembling thundi-r struck one of the mt in strests, and trave sad it for a considerable distance, uproofing and wrecking bui'dings in its tiack, bfS'dfcs destroy ng telegraph wircssnd working general havoc. The p op'e ru-h d in»o tie stye's in their night clothf s, panic stri ken. The Commercial Hotel was a'mogdenulished, while the Globs Ho'el and a number of o her buildings were badly damaged. There were many narrow ppcepes, some persons being bu ned slightly or hurt in tbe debris, bu fc . n;>ne were setiou-ly injurpd. Tho damage is es'imated at ,£SOOO. The phenomenon lasted cn'y a few sscoods. Heavy rain was falling at the time.
