FIRST MEETING. j The fint meeting was held on Thursday in the Opuoake Town Hill, all the members b«ing present. Mr More presided, and, after a few introductory lemarks, asked for noininati )t s for obuirmin. Mr M «xw«ll proposed Mr Forsyth, who, on accouut of his long ■ xperienoe of such bodie--, would be a most suitable man. Mr Biiant seconded the nomination, which,.was carried unanimously. Mr Forsyth thanked the Council fer electkg him, and hoped (he new Council would be the means of advancing the district, which was much neglected" through having no railway or good harbour. He hoped everything would run smoothly. It was resolved to invite applications for tin position of clerk, and Mes=rs Maxwsll and Dudley and the Otnirman were appointed a committee to draw up particulars of duties, in the me*utime Mr MoDiivitt was appointed tamporarily, Tha Chairman and Mr Stevenson were appointed to interview the Bank of New Zealand re,finance, Res lived to apply to tbe Valuation Department for a valuiti >n roll. The next meeting of the Council was fixei for Friday, Bih May. Mr McHannighan was appointed roadman far the Opunake and Rahotu ridings, at same pay as he received from Taraoaki County Council. Mr Muuro6 was similarly appointed for the Oeo riding. Resolved, That the Chairman attend to tho matter of books for the Oouccil. That notice ba given of the dangerous state of the Waiaua and Waiteika bridges. A motion that the Councillors and loodmeu make an inspection of tbe county to see the requirements was lost. Resolved, That the Chairman be em power d to procure any material required by roadmen. Conefpondence was read from Hooker and Scott re printing,— Received. F.om Opuoake Town Board re harbour rate. -Reso'vsd that the Council endorse tho Board's resolution. Tea Council adjourned,— Star, '
