EARTHQUAKES.
BRVJSEE BHOCK AT WARRNAMBOOL. OONBIDERABLE DAMAGE. psa PBKSS ASSOCIATION. Received », 0.52 a.m. Melbourne, April 7. A vary savers earthquake occurred at Warrnambool to-da**, causing great consternation, the inhabitants rushing from houses and Ehops into the street. The direction of the shock w PS from south-west to north-east. It 1 isted for ten second, and was accompanied by a loud rambling noise. The children in the State schools Stampeded in a fright, A massive stone cross on one of the turrets of Bt. John's Presbyterian Church was dislodged and crashed through the roof. The Warrnambool Town-hall received n good deal of dunase, the ceiling falling, whiln on; w*ll was cracked right through. A number of chimneys in private houses were tbr >wi down.
The ehock was severely felt at Port Fairy, altoough at Konsi% half w«y between Warrnambool and Port Fairy, it was not felt at all.
Adelaide, Ap-il 7. Earthquakes were Mi at Georgetown and Gladstone. At the former plice the shock was acaimpinied by a loud report, the slurp vibrations lasting three of four seconds.
