The annual meeting of the High School Ola GirU Association is to bs held at. the school on Thursday, 9th instant, at 3.30. Owing to the concert at the Theatre Royal on Good Friday by tha Westminster Abbey Singers beine; of a sacred nature, Mr Dudiey Causton will no!; appear. In order to allew those attending church to be present tha concert will not commence ti l 8.30 p.m.
The Timaru Band Contest Committer has I fixed the date for the contest from October 'oth to 10th. The prizes for test selections will be £IOO, £SO, £25, and £lO, and for quickstep competitions £25, £lO and £3. 4 pips band contest is also arranged, with p izes of £25 and £lO for tes pieces, and £lO and £5 for quickstep. Gold medals valua £2 10s, and a silver medal valued at £1 10s will be offered for solos and quartettes (brass). It was decided to hare two judges for the brass band contest; to nsk each competiog band to nominate three pcsons to act as judges, and then to spinet two by bi'lot. Entries for the contest arj to be made by. June Ist.
Friends of the West "nd Fchool are reminded that a concert in ai l of t'e Organ Fund will be held on Welnesdiy, Bsh instant, in the hall opposite the school. Several of the papers have published and favourably commented upon Mr A. Standish's breakwater scheme. So far the only objection urged is thst the money cannot be got at 3| per cent. In reply to i hat we would say the Pa'ea Harbour Board got £25,000 at 4 per cent—very low interest for so small a sum. The matter can, however, ba easily settled by the i: sertion of a clause in the Empowering Act limiing the interest to ba paid. A number of members of the Wanganni Bowling Olub intend going on a short tour during Uaßter week. They intend leaving on Thursday morning next for Hawera, where they engage the local team in the afternoon. They pro.-sed in the evening to New Plymouth, playing there on Good Friday, and return to play at f-tratford oa Baiter Monday. They m*y possibly meet the Palmerston bowlers at, New Plymouth on Saturday, as the latter are also froiqg north. It is expected five rinks will leave Wanganui, The Taranaki Fire Underwriters Association have decided to reduce the rates iu the Stratford watarariaas from April 15 next. This will apply to all insurance companies doing business in Stratford.
