TRAGEDY IN A LOCK-UP.
Per Press Association. Brisbane, March 30. A trageiy occurred in the 10.-k-up at Mackay, A Kanaka who was awaiting tii.l, was in the exercise yard wkh a number ef other prisoner. Hh got possession of an ax», and at'aoked and killed a white mm named Jam is Martin. The lock-up keeper, Johnson entered the yard, and the Kanaka also killed him. A police-sergeant then climbed a tree outside the yard, and shot tha Kanaka in the thigh. The murdeier entered his ce'l, atd the police rushed in after him, and after a struggle overpowed him.
