OVERCROWDING IN WELLINGTON.

The report of tbe committee rat up by the City Council to report upon housing conditions in various parts of the city, shows that 303 homes in M streets were visited diselosiog a nam* ber of deplorable cases of overcrowding. \ One house of two rooms bad seven occupants, seven of three rooms bad seven occupants, one of three rooms eight, two of four rooms nine, and one of five small rooms eleven. The weekly rental of houses per room worked out: —For a two roomed house 4s 2d, three rooms 3s 4d, four rooms St 74, five rooms 2< 3d, s<x roams 2s 91, For many vtry small twuses the aver* ye weekly rent per room was 8s 7d, More than half the h' uses visited were in a bad condition. One lodging houas was seriously ovei crowded, and another was ut'fit for' habitation. The committee iemark« that a large proportion of the houses visited were unfit for habitation under conditions of daotnoy and bealth and that the rents charged w« outrageous.
