DIVING FOR TREASURE.
Per Pro?s Association. Auckland, Mnrch 28. Mr Tanner, the diver, after visiting tbe wreck of the Elingamite in the steamer Energy, ou behalf of a Lond .n Salvage C'ompiny, obtained new diving gear and leaves immediately to continue his operations, which, he anticipates, will probably result in the recovery of tb« lost specie. The Energy immediately over the wreck and fix«d the locality by sinking a charge of dynamite, the explosion bringing to the surface a portion of the wreck and much fro!h and corks, indicating the breaking of bottled liquor.
Mr Tanner ia rather re'icent on certain points, but states that no difficulty was experienced in locating the wreck. He landed on the ithud in close proximity to the wreck, with his gear. He found several good landings, and expressed surprise that tho whole of tbe Elingamite's passengers were not put ashore where the vessd struck.
Private information received in New Plymouth is to the effect that Mr Tanner is actually recovering tbe sunken gold.
