On Friday Gvening Colonel Webb, the officer commanding in th's district, met thi offiors of the corps comprising the Taranaki Bitallion at the Criterion Hotel. (Stratford), Ctptnin Loech (fnglewood), Oapi-ain Buddie, Lieutenants Carter and Page (Eltham), Oap'ain Gray, Lieutenants Dansey and Hillyard (Waitara). It was generally considered by all present that the moeting was of a most satisfactory nature and a step in the right direction. Such meetings do much to encourage officers in their efforts to promote the efficiency and welfare of th >ir companies. Amongst the matters decided on was a Battalion parade once a quarter, for which sanction was given. The first quaiterly parade after tho Easter camp i-s to bo hel I on Empire Day, when i' is proposid to concentratn one half the JBat alion at Stratford and the other a> Eltham. It is more than probable that a school cf instruction will b8 formed at New Plymouth at an early d ite.

Cdoiel Webb is evidently defirous of doing all he can for the Volunteers in his district, and hi prop: sus to visit the companies more frequently than his been done in the >ast.
