PREPARATIONS FOR TRANSVAAL LO 4N. PER PRESS ASSOCIATION. Received 25.8 10 a.m. London, March 24. The Johannesburg correspondent of the Standard states that the Customs Conference greatly reduces the railway rates to the Rand on the necessaries of life from Ju'y Ist, and that a Customs Union for British South Africa is assured. The weakness in Consols is due to preparations for a Transvaal loan, OUBTOM3 UNION. Received 26, 1.18 a.m. Cape Town, March 25. Five colonies at the Bloemfontein Conference signed a draft Customs Union C nvention. Ten per cent preferential treatment will be accorded Britain and the colonies which reciprocal, The draft, must be ratified by the vai ious 1 »gislatures. Articles most fivored are flour and wheat. The closing resolution described the Convention as a great stride in political unification and expressed a hope of an early conference to promote the Commonwealth of South Africa.
